A new take on the upcoming movies

Or shall we call it an embarrassing correction on the last prognosis? While MIB2 set a new Fourth of July weekend box office record, initial reviews indicate that it is much too similar to the first movie. That probably means that it is in fact bearable (?). But still …
Other movies that I certainly wouldn’t recommend are Bad Company (another sell-out by Hopkins) and Collateral Damage (Arnold reprises a role he has had in basically all movies).
No one seems to have liked Reign of Fire either. Well, some wrote things like “Refreshingly Straightforward” and “Excellent B-movie” but I don’t know what to make of it. The characteristics of a summer blockbuster I suppose. It can go either way. I have to admit that I own quite a few “B-movies” and being a fan of sci-fi / fantasy usually helps to cope with the so dreaded verdict. There is a big difference between a Schwarzenegger / Stallone / Norris action, a DiCraprio / Hugh Grant / Meg Ryan / Renée Zellweger drama and a B-movie sci-fi. The difference is that in general the B-movie leaves you with a lasting impression.
I’d take a low budget sci-fi with uninspired actors and a bizarre story over a conventional movie any day. I.e. much rather Planet of the Apes (1968) than Titanic.

And on a side note, I noticed that Jeri Ryan has joined the cast of Boston Public. I am sure this is pretty old news by now but we are somewhat behind on the series here in Sweden (no surprise there then …). Brilliantly funny series that will be returning to channel four this autumn.
