Maintenance and more maintenance …

One of the two electrical drying racks from Toomec had a breakdown. Or rather it has been in a state of breakdown for a year or so but now I know why and how to solve it. And for people living in the stone age without a drying rack I can only say one thing - get one now.
They are generally good, despite my little misfortune. The thing was that the heating cables and the plastic couplings introduced a nasty chemical reaction that triggered a weathering and weakening of the material. I thought it was the heat itself and leakage of water that caused this but apparently not. I am going to check the manufacturers warranty now. If I’m lucky and still within the two year warranty period I will get this one replaced (and the other one?). If not I can still get a replacement for less than half the price of a new rack. Nice gesture from Toomec but then again they made a really big error with the construction.
Plastic weathering catalyzed by heat. This has to be the term of the week. I mean, like four thousand years ago they constructed buildings that still stand. What will be left of us in four thousand years? Not this heating rack anyway …

In addition, there are some cases of paint peeling off on certain spots. Those spots are now sandpapered and painted over but I don’t like where this is going. It was only like two years ago that I painted the whole damn thing. The good news is that there aren’t any traces of mold (that I can see anyway) … yet. And when you finished washing the windows you can just as well begin again. This is the downside of owning a house I suppose, maintenance, maintenance and maintenance.

And another thing. With this damn heat the AMD XP system is now doing 40°C *idle*. Come on. This isn’t going to work in the long run. Either this is just an extra hot day (I don’t usually keep track of cpu vs. outdoor temp.) or the grease under the core has vanished. I need more fans, and well placed fans. Time for the grinder again. Vrrrrrrr …
