My plans for the future

Finding the path ...What is this guy doing anyway? For those who are wondering what I’m up to after the summer break (yeah, I’m just lazing in the shade these days) I can now calm everyone and present you with some hot news on the subject.

I will be taking Social Psychology as part of a three year program. How ironic isn’t that? Even if the science in itself is interesting, there are a few potential hurdles.

Firstly, the lectures in this type of field differ a lot from what I am used to in natural science. I consider group discussions, constant group projects and role-playing to be more or less worthless. Especially when taken to this extreme (I refer to the basic ps. course I took at the same univ. this spring).
Accepting data (knowledge, information, whatever you want to call it) requires no special preparations or personality. Working actively (which is pretty much essential in order to benefit from the activity) in a group on the other hand DOES require a certain personality and mood. A pedagogically very questionable technique.

Second, the attending students often have certain undesirable qualities. This is again part speculation and part observation. This field often attract the loquacious, people with a deviating sexuality and an excess of personality.

Side note:
As for sexual preferences .. well .. don’t get me wrong here. I don’t really mind the fact anyway. People are what they are. Take it or leave it. What I do mind however is the combination of the odd preference and the excessive personality. Certain people tend to be very outgoing, but in reality insecure in a way. They polarize against norms, seemingly being fooled themselves to think that sexuality is something more than it really is. Put simply, many seem to suffer from a social disruption in one form or another (even if they don’t understand it themselves). And because of the tendency to form subcultures, i.e. not feeling at peace with “people not of your kin”, many become a rebellious nuisance. Even though they aren’t really different, they think they are and this will always be their undoing. Compare this to how the Romany and Jewish morphs of our species have been treated over the centuries and you will get the general idea on how people react to isolated (sub)cultures. Even if it is just an imaginary thing, and that only a minority of the “normbreakers” actually advertise about it.
Why am I going on about this then? Well, have you ever pondered WHY our species as well as most others still exhibit this behavior? Even though it seemingly has no purpose and because of the genetic basis of inheritance would easily be eliminated from the gene pool. Well, there are some perfectly logical theories on this. Trust me when I say I will be coming back to this subject in the future.

So in summary, annoying personalities xor increased extraversive behavior can drive me mad. Do as you like but don’t get in my face. All I need is a copy of The Divine Comedy, a CD walkman and some peace and quiet. Ok?
This could be a very troublesome term for me. Or a six month vacation with virtually free academic points. It all depends. One thing I will try do do however is channel any possible funds to the projects department. There are a couple of goodies that aren’t even listed on the page, mainly the updated HTPC project and the matter of the outdoor project. Something that I will remedy in the near future.

Hmm. I realize now that there is hardly a single post that doesn’t mention the word “HTPC” or has a negative undertone. Well, that’s life for you, kids. Realism and conviction.
