Had a chat with the Swedish agent for Case Logic products. Once again I pointed out how stupid it is that the cd walkman case NDM3 is still not available in Sweden (or anywhere in Europe for that matter). And once again he promised to look into it. I will apparently have to contact CL International and demand that they add the specific model to their assortment.

The HTPC case project took a sharp turn today when I suddenly abandoned Ferrocon as a potential contractor. The reason for this was that I found an additional company willing to do the job at a similar expense, only they didn’t use plasma but LASER. It’s a no-brainer really. Do I want 1-1.5mm accuracy (because that is the width of the plasma stream) or do I want an accuracy of a tenth of a millimetre (0.1mm) :)
I have already received a preliminary consultation and expenditure approximation and there seems to be no major problems ahead. Apart from the three week production delay. We’ll see what happens in the next couple of days. I have got to finalize the assembly plan for the case soon.
Even if I’ve produced what I believe is the most efficient design under the circumstances, I yet do not know how to best fixate the parts.
Maybe I can fixate one end of a bolt inside (preferably the nut) in order to get the much yearned for Boltz ™ look. Or fixate the head inside somehow and use wing nuts from the outside. Or perhaps even better would be to thread the holes properly, you know, produce the helical ribs in the metal in which the screw then runs. Not that I have any tools to do that in 2mm stainless steel but since I am spreading this work over so many people why not one more? The coolest thing would obviously be to thread a 6mm hole and use regular M6 oversized torx bolts. Or whatever. But it would certainly be a seamless solution.
