Boredom

Well, even though there is really nothing new to report I have to try and keep the blog rolling somehow :-) It’s the peril of setting up a blog I suppose. Pretty soon I will probably be discussing garden gnomes *shudder*.

Anyway. I bothered to show up at the superficial gathering of the Social Psychology Program. Fairly pointless so I ended up taking my bike home again to get some sleep. I don’t mean to imply that the program itself is pointless but academic initiations are a bit like a day care center. Do grown up people really need to be herded like sheep around campus?
I, as usual, didn’t really plan ahead and arrived late, as always. Bad manners I suppose but in the new tradition of academic studies no one cares. My excuse was excellent though. Today I mustered my willpower and embarked on the first major all-terrain jogging trip of the season. Well, of the the entire year actually. You see, I have been experimenting with different walking techniques over the last 7-8 months instead of running/jogging. It is all about what you want to accomplish. I still enjoy jogging, but it does wear and tear more on the body, there is no denying that. Oh well, I have a few tricks up my sleeve for the coming season .. trust me.

On a side note I managed to (before falling asleep) to look into the possibility of acquiring “pebbles” from any of the slab/tile industries in the region. Put simply - you know the stuff they use on top of garden slabs? In Sweden there seems to be two dominant variations on the theme. One is crushed marble (black and white) and the other is what is referred to as “danish pebbles”. Whatever. Brownish, yellowish cute little oval stones that are very comfortable to walk on. I actually have crushed marble in the garden but that is not really the point here. The point is that I want A LOT of these pebbles so that I can cover the soil of every indoor plant. By filling maybe the last 2-3 cm of the pot with small “pebbles” (or any medium-small size rock fragments) I accomplish three things (that I can think of right now anyway): The first is insulation (which isn’t all that important indoors), secondly they act as a barrier to moisture (or rather hold moisture and make it more difficult for the top layer of the soil to dry out) and the third good reason is esthetics.
Well, anyway, the downside is, as I said, that I need A LOT of pebbles. More than I could ever get (or afford for that matter) from a garden center. What I did was that I called up both Swerock and Benders (I think that they put together produce the majority of garden slabs here in Sweden). The current price of “danish pebbles” seems to be somewhere around 6-700 SEK / metric ton. I’m only going to buy a couple of bucketfuls though.
