Guess which tv series is my all time favorite?
I am sure you can appreciate the excitement as I opened my mailbox this evening and received the following tidbit:
Info from a TV show 26 August tells that a film group got a green light to make a MacGyver movie. That is the good news - the bad news is that Richard Dean Anderson will not play MacGyver.
However, he will still participate in the movie in some way or another.
The film group seems to be New Line btw. For more info please visit the MacGyver Episode Guide. And be sure to get the actual episode guide as well. It’s a blast.
The rumour that Richard Dean Anderson will not be a central figure of the movie came as a bit of a shock actually. What are they thinking? RDA *is* MacGyver and there isn’t a person alive who could replace him. Ever. It must all be a big misunderstanding, right? Unless they are thinking along the line of prequel. “Young Indiana Jones” anyone? Harrison Ford had like 3min screen time in the entire series if I remember correctly. But then again it wasn’t such a bad series after all. I can honestly say that I enjoyed it.
But, to recapitulate, what was Angus MacGyvers profession in the series? None - he was just too busy helping his inept friends. Haha. No, really, he worked on and off for the “Phoenix foundation” as a civilian troubleshooter. If I am not mistaken it was hinted on quite a few occasions that his former occupation might not have been so “passive”.
Sadly it has been many a years since I last watched the series so details are a bit blurred. What I’m thinking here is that the MacGyver of a prequel might not be the same person, only 10 years (or so) younger. A prequel-MacGyver would be in a completely different business altogether. More of a full-time Bond-type special agent if you know what I mean.
I hope that they keep the hairdo at least … and the Victorinox folding knife.
What I also would really like to see is a continuation of the tv series. And maybe this isn’t all that impossible since RDAs current project StarGate:SG1 might be out of time. SG1 has been immensely successful but all good things must come to an end eventually and the show has been on the air for a great number of years now. Wouldn’t we rather see RDA return as the one and only MacGyver?
