If you’re feeling up in the blue, just make a call to the Ministry of Finance. Wow. The issue of tax on private imports (of DVDs) and especially the added postal fees seem hard to get around.

They don’t want to do it because it gets too political for them. Sweden has been run by social democrats (left wing party) for the better part of a century and soc.democratic policy is not to cut taxes. It would be almost like a mortal sin for these people. On the other hand they pointed out the unfair competition situation that my suggestions would create. Well, I don’t agree. Firstly because the situation already exists (not all packages are taxed for practical reasons) and secondly because I believe we live in a democracy. I think that that in this case the government is walking by leash from the movie industry, or rather doing their dirty business instead of protecting the rights of its citizens. A democracy and especiallt the utilitarianism that is so widespread in the country should put the freedom and rights of its citizens in favor of corporations.

But then again. Sweden is a bunch of spineless goons. Just look at the situation with “americas war on terrorism”. Like we ever lifted a finger to aid Swedish citizens facing allegations or terrorism … This act of cowardice dishonors me as well.
