Fluorescent tubes : Part 2

The fluorescent tube fixtures checked out ok. The tubes were however in need of replacement. What I will try to do is get a slightly cooler white pastel. Like 950 or 940. I am almost certain that the current tubes (labelled warm white) are 860 or similar. Almost all commercial tubes are.

860 btw means 6000 Kelvin at (least) above 80% fidelity of the “natural” spectrum. At least for our species, I might add.

Once again, to cut a long story short, the human visual system evolved in the radiation from our sun being filtrated through earths atmosphere. Certain wavelengths are visible to us and that visible spectrum has certain qualities. However, it took a fairly long time for us to even get close to mimicing this spectrum. Nowadays you can buy fl. tubes with 96-98% fidelity (even with UV A+B) in the correct temperature range.

This matters alot. Not only because it is woven into our physiological processes but also for material reproduction. Like design and clothing. It still amazes me that you go into a store, under 860 class tubes and buy clothes that will have an entirely different color once they are exposed to “sunlight”. What a scam.
