I just picked up Indesign 2.0. A bit late I know. The good news is that it adds / fixes one of the most annoying shortcomings of the previous versions - object transparency! Now, finally, you can place and paste objects from Photoshop and have the full set of parameters preserved if you’d like.
Basically, this means that I could probably finish my business cards AND publish more documents in the PDF format. But I would need an update to Illustrator (transparency as well!) before I can perfect the design. Indesign is good but for several reasons it is the wrong tool for this job.
Transparent gfx is like when some genious invented the undo-button, once you try it, there is no going back. You start to think in terms of transparent layers. All in all, a fairly useless program has finally matured and is actually quite useful nowadays.
