The problems are just falling over me it seems. Now the sleeve bearing fan on the chipset seems to be failing after just one year.
This is however not necessarily a bad thing! Why? Because chipset fans are controversial. They produce extra noise and provide very little extra cooling. I did a web search and came up with this.
Interesting indeed! It seems the 8KHA+ can indeed function well without the fan, as long as the case temp is within reasonable limits. I’ll play around and see what happens.
And while on the subject of stupid fan placements .. the fan in my Yamaha 8424 cd recorder is really starting to piss me off. I have however not been able to figure out if it is safe to completely remove the fan. Probably not since the model prior to the 8424 had a big problem with overheating. I’m looking into this. It’s just that finding a new SILENT fan in this particular size wont be easy.
