Vaporware 2002: Tech up in Smoke?

“For the first time, there were quite a few winners that also made last year’s list. In the fast-moving world of technology, it’s unusual for products to be hung up long enough to qualify two years in a row, but a number of hard-working companies heroically managed it. ”

10. Silicon Film’s Electronic Film System.
9. The new Amiga.
8. Ubi Soft’s Shadowbane.
7. QuarkXPress for Macintosh OS X.
6. NVidia’s GeForce FX graphics card.
5. Infogrames’ Master of Orion 3.
4. Oqo’s Ultra-Personal Computer.
3. Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms.
2. Mac and Linux clients for Neverwinter Nights.
.. and for the number one spot ..
1. Duke Nukem Forever.

No real surprise there. I still miss a couple of items though. Like Bitboys for example, since they have never produced a real product I think they deserve to be included. But since nVidia failed to counter ATI’s 9000-series of DX9 cards I suppose it’s only fair. And then there was the memory stick from [dang, I forgot the name] that was supposed to replace current expensive alternatives for digital cameras.
And the Red Dwarf movie should qualify as well, not that most people are familiar with the franchise. Cloned babies could be a real contender as well, should the raelians claim prove to be false.
Broadband internet is another thing. Not just in my case (duh!) but the same infrastructural problem is appearing in many countries all over the world.
