It has been a pretty slow week. I’ve been getting quite a lot of new music but on the gaming side there isn’t much left. I’ve played all the major (according to me) releases this year, i.e. Sim City 4, Unreal 2, C&C Generals and Road To Rome.
Out of these four I’m quite disappointed with both Sim City and C&C. I mean, nice gfx but not much else. I’ve heard people complaining about Unreal 2 but I don’t understand their arguments. The only problem with Unreal 2 is what you didn’t get, like another mission and multiplayer. As the game stands today however it is brilliant. I like pretty much everything about the game. To me it represents what Tribes 2 could and should have been. Compared to UT2003 the movement is slower (because of the armor ..), the weapons are more interesting and of course it generally looks better. The maps are also much more ingenious .. maybe a little too much for the multiplayer brethren? Playing on a map like Avalon for example it’s just mind boggling to think what would happen if you made it into a multiplayer map with the same weapons and maybe variable player classes. I must admit that the player armor classes (at least the ones you see) for Skaarj and Humans are interesting. And again very much like Tribes. Too bad you can’t customize them or choose and upgrade your armor. But who knows what the future holds. Maybe there is a Tribes 3 or UT2004 in the works …
I’m off playing Battlefield 1942. Gotta practise those tank driving skills.
