The 180GXP unit is NOT playing nice. I will have to check cabling etc. because something is definately wrong here. While performance isn’t affected, it does give off some horrid sounds now and then. Like a revving electrical engine or a rotary coil with broken bearings or something. This is also accompanied by the occasional but rare metallic noise that I have learned is almost always foretelling a hard drive crash.
The strange thing is just that you don’t notice anything special, you just hear the shrieking sound. Normally I would expect the entire computer to pause occasionally when the hard drive is acting up. Also, I have been unable to detect any damaged areas on the disc. But I suppose it is only the calm before the storm.
Of course, I can’t return the unit unless it is actually broken — so — what else can I do but sit here and wait for a failure?
The 60GXP unit seems to be working though. Strange.
