As you have probably noticed, there is a link to the Usage Statistics for battleangel.f2o.org to the left. It’s quite fun to look at from time to time. Not so much as to brag about how many hits this page has got but rather HOW people find their way here. Among other things, the statistics list Search Strings. So what? Well, since all the posts are tagged with time and date I will know how long it took for a certain post to propagate to the major search engines (mostly Google anyway).

The world wide web is not exactly anonymous these days. In only a matter of hours, the stuff you post to a blog like this one will be available, not only to friends and already initiated, but also to anyone that uses a search engine. Is this a problem? Maybe not. It depends on what people do with the information. First impression you know. If you came here using the query “3dmark03 crack” you will probably see this page in a slightly different light than if you came looking for the gunnm manga or just landed here by chance. Also, I suppose that this could cause some kind of electronic labelling, categorizing this website and myself based on shallow information retrieval.
As someone pointed out on Slashdot the other day – should we think twice before we order something online that might me considered “questionable”. Will some government agency hover the net for flagged purchases and flag you as well? I’m sure he meant it as a joke (it was Slashdot after all) but there is no telling what kind of unwanted attention your actions will draw. Especially in a scared and confused world.
For those that obviously came here in vain looking for a crack (serial) for 3dmark03 I know for a fact that you can now find it via Astalavista. Information is a wonderful thing but in a world where governments and organizations aren’t on the level, it might betray you.
