Yep, I’m always on the lookout for snazzy new programs that might work better than the old snazzy program that I’m replacing. Ahh, this quest for change and perfection never ends.
Lazy as I am, I haven’t updated the Software page in a very long time. The idea of maintaining a software listing was great but it has become very difficult to maintain. Mostly because it’s too time consuming. Here are the latest programs that were replaced or added. I’m feeling extra lazy today so for the most part you have to search for the programs yourself. I mean, what else are search engines like Google for?

New:

1-4a Rename (home)
- People in general seem to lack all sense of order. Just look at how they name mp3 files. Aaaaah, it’s just hideous. It’s either “artist_track_song_encoded_by_X_very_3l33t” or “artist(year)-track-song-godknowswhat”.
If you want something done you have to do it yourself. And it’s a bore to rename hundreds of files by yourself so it helps to have a tool like this.

VoptXP Defrag
- I needed a new defrag and I was not very happy with the programs supplied by Symantec/Norton these days. This one feels a lot more professional overall and puts you in complete control over the defragmentation process.

AnalogX (home)
- Not one but an entire armada of programs. The ones I am most interested in are the Network tools. Most important tools include HyperTrace and NetStat Live. There is also a Port Mapper and a Proxy server that could be worth downloading.

Fraps (home)
- Can be very useful for in-game screenshots and movies but most of all to sample the FPS throughput.
