The battle for free media rages on

CD-WOW fights BPI over imported CDs (CDFreaks)

Music labels, lead by trade group the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), are seeking an injunction and claiming damages from Music Trading On-Line (HK) Ltd, the firm behind cd-wow, for the sale within the Europe of CDs imported from Hong Kong.

File Traders Feel Activities Are Not Wrong (CDFreaks)

The recent TEMPO research also reveals that nearly three-quarters (73%) of U.S. downloaders report their motivation for doing so is to sample music before making a purchase. Further, U.S. downloaders believe their actions to be okay, with few agreeing that downloading free music off of the Internet is wrong (9%), and only one-in-five (21%) agreeing that free downloading and peer-to-peer file-sharing hurts artists.

Only 16% believe that record labels are justified in shutting down file-sharing services, such as Napster and Audio Galaxy, and two-fifths (39%) agree that making copies of music to give to friends is okay.

“With recent efforts underway to redefine the role of copyright and fair-use in the digital age, this data clearly shows that current U.S. downloaders are interpreting both the motivations and legality of their actions on their own terms,” continued Kleinschmit. “This suggests that copyright enforcement efforts are unfortunately being misinterpreted by these consumers, and additional education and awareness on the importance of intellectual property rights in this new era of content distribution may be necessary.”

BT accused over music piracy (CDFreaks)

The British Phonographic Industry said the telecoms giant had been reluctant to discuss the issue of online piracy, despite repeated attempts by its anti-piracy division to get BT to discuss peer-to-peer file-swapping. BT denies it is supporting illegal services, pointing out that peer-to-peer technology is not illegal.

These people never learn. The only analogy I can think of is if you own a dog that you discipline by beating it with a cane. I bet that, one of these days, that dog will snap and chew you to death as soon as you turn your back to it. It’s a lesson as to why aggression and punishment never solves anything. But some people never get it. It’s a quick and lazy way of “eliminating” the “problem”.
Come on people! Who do you think is going to buy those CDs anyway? Actually, it’s the very same people that you are seriously pissing off with your nonsense. Saying things like “educating the consumers”, like they were little children, is provocative to say the least.
If you can’t stay in touch with the present technology and adapt, then by all means, please rid us of your stupidity. You don’t run the world. The days of the Spanish Inquisition are over.
