Play Quicktime WITHOUT Quicktime Player

It seems that the Kazaa Lite Team finally took a stab at this. I presume that Apple wont be very happy when they find out. Hmmmm.
QuickTime Alternative 1.0 (5.61 MB) installs all the QuickTime codecs and lets you use any player of your choosing (at least in theory). The bundled player is, however, preferred (I use it for all video playback under win2k).

QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime (.mov .qt) files. This way there is no need to install the offical QuickTime player. As a bonus, Internet Explorer will play all QuickTime movies that are embedded in a webpage.

You do need a player that is capable of handling QuickTime movies. The included Media Player Classic works very well with QuickTime.

This has been one of the biggest quirks with the internet today. I say “one world, one media player”. And quite frankly I wouldn’t mind if it turns out to be a Microsoft player either. Anything would be better than this. QuickTime would be nothing more than a bleak parenthesis had it not been for their approach to movie trailers. Talk about foul play. Well, no longer.

Now if I could only have a working RealMedia codec pack … the best option right now is to install Media Player Classic and RealPlayer 8+ (look here). SHOULD work.
