Games and popular media stuff

New screens from SIMS 2 here. I still hate the genre. And I’m supposed to be a psychologist mind you. Crap.

Unreal2k3 // UnWheel has released a public alpha to play around with. Final version of Dead Cat Invasion is out as well. Understandably, it took some time before mods and conversions started to appear. Hopefully stuff like this will elevate UT2k3 to the same heights as UT.

Not so much a game but still. Emergency boot disk seem like a nice thing to have around. At least when things go awry. I’ll give it a shot.

Seems there is a review of Matrix Reloaded at the Mirror. And suffice to say they are not impressed. They, like so many others, enjoyed the background philosophy of the first movie and now it seems there is nothing left but a very cool action movie. One that is sure to blow us all away but nevertheless a completely different movie in context.

Fileplanet released a playable version of Planetside. Don’t know what the deal is. Seem like an advanced beta version that will likely expire in 1-2 weeks. Maybe it’s time limited. The queues are long (about 2h waiting time) and the game is huge (1300MB). We’ll see what happens. From what I’ve heard the game will flop. Sad. Requirements list 512MB RAM and 1024MB SWAP FILE STORAGE. Insane. I still like the concept though. I’ll get back when I’ve got the game (some time early tomorrow at best).
I still think that Fileplanet’s subscription idea sucks. At least if they are going to withhold stuff like this. Grrrrrr. They are begging to be attacked if you ask me. They shouldn’t get away with this. God damn I’m annoyed by this. It’s no wonder people leech stuff from DC. ETA 10h …

The main problem with Fileplanet is that they trick developers to use their system and offer “free” storage space. From a developer’s point of view it’s basically fire and forget. But from the end-user perspective it’s an abomination. The files are where they are supposed to be - only you can’t get them. There are free alternatives so it’s puzzling why people still use Fileplanet.
