Sorry for being a bit hasty last week. The beta didn’t expire. Not until today. So, I had time to play around with it some more. Here is a bit of info that I dug up on the gaming situation and that might be the cause of my problems:

Rage3D: DON’T use Win2K as a gaming option

One thing is for sure. Lag isn’t the only problem with this game. And I bet that texture loading / unloading could be one of the main culprits here. Since the training missions were unlocked I was able to try out the gameplay offline with no other players around. Still extremely choppy. But a wee bit better than usual and noticably better once I reduced texture loading prefs.
So, maybe I’ve been too harsh. It’s just that you get very pissed off when things aren’t going your way. And with the addition of the ever present lag this game could drive you insane. Even if it is one of the best games I’ve played in a very long time.

Will I pay for the final game? No. Unless you got a couple of free months out of the box. Or maybe if you could leech the ISOs once it is released and then buy 1-2 months of game time online. Buying the game AND paying hefty online fees is no good. I also foresee that most ppl will get bored with this game in a couple of months. Not because it’s a bad game but rather because thats life. Modern ppl devour popular culture like never before.
