Hmm. I’ve been listening to all 26 songs and as usual there is a mixed bag of music. One contribution that caught my attention for BEING REALLY SILLY was Austria’s Alf Poier “Weil Der Mench Zählt”. Reminded my of the kind of stuff Finland always sends. Finland of course didn’t qualify this time because of their last performance. God damn. Poier sounds like a travelling midget circus or a children’s TV show or something.
There are a fair number of dance tunes (or whatever, this really isn’t my genre!), of which some were actually quite good. Take Romania’s Nicola “Don’t Break My Heart” for example. This will have to be my personal favorite for now. Yeah, yeah, keep your pants on. But I really like this song.
A bit disappointed with Tatu “Ne Ver Ne Bojsia”. I expected something more. Not that this is too much out of line with their album. The song isn’t bad or anything although it took me a couple of sessions to get used to. They have their special style and it’s good. And maybe their scene show will shine. Hehe. You know what I mean ..
As they say over at fark.com .. “not safe for work”.
Where does Sweden (Fame “Give Me Your Love”) stand in all of this? Who knows. Pretty crappy song that lacks emotion and a catchy tune.
So far, the best songs imho are: Birgitta - Open Your Heart (Iceland), Tatu - Ne Ver Ne Bojsia (Russia), Mija Martina Barbaric - Could It Be (Bosnia), Nicola - Dont Break My Heart (Romania), Ich Troje - Keine Grenzen Zadnych Granic (Poland), Lou - Let’s Get Happy (Germany) and Urban Trad - Sanomi (Belgium). I’ll admit that the latter three are a bit “strange” but what the hell. This isn’t the “culture police”.
One can of course always lament that there are no heavy tracks included. I think we could need the touch of some power and goth metal to spice things up a bit. Maybe Finland could nominate Nightwish for next year … yeah right. Oh well. Eurovision has become a genre in itself. There is really no need to be nitpicking. Whoever said that Eurosong was bad taste and that you should steer clear of mainstream music was probably a real ass hat. Steer clear of ass hats and listen to music that affects you. No matter where you pick it up.
