Quite a pleasant surprise. Especially since everybody has been dissing it for the last couple of weeks. I mean, come on, what do you ppl want? The first movies all over again?

This IS the natural continuation of the first movie. Things couldn’t have been much different. Reviewers who are crying over what “could have been” are just not on the level. Yeah. Bitch and moan. Someone is destroying the perfect little image that you have from the first Matrix movie. Not that it was much of an image. And maybe that is the problem. It never touched on the subjects that would be hard to convey on screen and explain to the audience. It provided an oversimplification to the complete scheme of the Matrix world.
In a way things are often best left like that. It’s the typical pitfall of many a sci fi movie. Trying to explain in techno babble what can never be told. The veil of mystique is lifted and some of the excitement goes out the window. But the movie does a pretty good job inventing new mysteries to explore. It’s just that ppl are pretty small minded and can only relate to what they were taught the last time around. It can almost be compared to transferring a book to screenplay. Most of us will have our own image of the characters in the book and will have a hard time accepting the characters on the screen. Also, there were a lot of semi complex dialogue (monologue at times) that quite frankly escaped most in the audience.

I thought that this movie threaded new territory in many areas. It’s like a different angle on the world that we came to know from the first Matrix. Not necessarily worse. Just different. And about the movie being a nonstop orgy of action, that is also pretty much BS. It retains quite a lot of profoundness if that is what you’re looking for. Reloaded might not be a masterpiece, but neither was the Matrix. Both are still very good though. Especially in this genre. Lets keep things in perspective.
Somehow it feel like the Wachowskis want to tell us more. But they don’t really trust the audience. And they shouldn’t. I saw it myself today. Ppl can’t even grasp the simplest of philosophical reasoning. Whatever. Reloaded is well worth watching. Don’t listen to the critics. They’re just pissed because they don’t get it.

And go watch Animatrix while you’re at it. That will expand your image of the Matrix even further. All we can do now is hold our breath until November.
