Dental blues, part 4

Last 3rd molar pulled. Full circle so to speak. It’s great to have it over with. Hopefully my new dental care regime will prevent unfortunate incidents like this for the future. I mean it was a chain of events that once triggered couldn’t be stopped. Human physiology sucks, right.
In retrospect it seems like a bad idea to schedule this for an exam week though. Even if I admit that a little pain can bring clarity and focus to chaos. Doing something like this is always a gamble. Even if you’re accustomed to pain, this was V E R Y painful. The other three molars were easier to remove in terms of actual gore and pain. Luckily the pain passes quickly and the sensation afterwards can be endured.

In retrospect I must say that no matter how good a dentist is, he or she is always prone to pampering. What is your spontaneous reaction when you get an entire bag of sponges and another bag of pills? “Uh oh, I’ve got a bad feeling about this …”. Hence I had to spend a good 30 min internalizing the fact that those measures are greatly exaggerated. I mean, it’s not like dentists are looking to provoke fear .. but they do it anyway. They anticipate too much. They sum up a lifetime of bad experiences and unleash it unto every patient.

Can you think of any other groups in society that are controlled too much by negative anticipations?
