Fruit stickers

How come when you buy fruit like pears and apples these days you always get a sticker on EVERY SINGLE item? And I mean EVERY SINGLE ITEM. Sometimes you even get two per item.

I never noticed that a couple of years ago. Plus they seem to have improved the glue to be more adhesive to the fruit body. All in all they have become a real nuisance. Nowadays you can’t just peel them off and instead you have to slice the sticker away with a sharp knife.

All in all I don’t see the purpose of these stickers sitting there like some kind of cattle brand. Who gives a smeg what company picked and packaged the fruit? Wouldn’t it be much easier to just post a sign that declares the origin of the apples in question? I can see how this would come in handy if the store chose to remove the product from its original packaging. But why would they do that? Is that really in their interest?
And are ppl really capable of remembering different brands when it comes to fruit. I sure don’t. And I see no reason to since the fruit counter is still 90% a product of mother nature so to speak. Despite more advanced crop control techniques the quality of the final product is still difficult to foresee and thus illogical to associate with a particular brand.

Or don’t ppl eat the outer tissue layer, the exocarp, anymore?
