Music recap

I should really do this every weekend. Too bad I don’t have the time or patience. I browse through a lot of new (and old) music every week and once again there is an album worth promoting. This week I will briefly mention two albums, one new and one old. Both heavy on vocals and “ethnic profiling”.

Milla Jovovich // I bet most ppl aren’t aware of the fact that Militza Natascha Jovovich, besides being a model and an actress, is also an accomplished musician. I recently came across the 1994 release Divine Comedy where she does lead vocals, guitar and songwriting. She has since been involved in a music project called “Plastic Has Memory” and is still active when her schedule admits. Reviews at the time were good although a bit patronizing (she being a model and all). It’s difficult being talented in a jealous world I suppose.

Sarah Brightman // Harem (2003). It has been a long time since the world saw a full length album from Sarah Brightman. The new album is worthwhile although not quite the masterpiece we’ve been expecting. All Music Guide gave it three stars and described it as a transition. Oh well.
Still. I’m a bit fed up with “arabsploitation” by now. I’ve seen it everywhere this past year. It’s kind of typical of Brightman to jump the bandwagon.
