Why people still cling to VCD/SVCD movie releases is beyond me. The only thing that is more stupid than encoding .mpeg movies is to encode .mpeg movies, package them in a VCD container, compress the whole shebang in .bin format and then release the abomination on the Internet.
Why can’t ppl ever learn to use advanced .avi encoding like Divx5 or Xvid? Presumably, a two disc mpeg release surpasses a one disc divx release but I wonder why these morons never though of releasing two divx discs instead and get really good quality if they really don’t mind wasting bandwidth …
For example: I recently came across The Chosen Few’s VCD release of Piglet’s Big Movie. Don’t ask me why. I just like Winnie the Pooh and the Hundred Acre Wood stories I suppose. Anyway, TCF had encoded the movie on a single VCD disc (container and everything). From what I could see the source print was a dvd screener copy. The end result was barely acceptable. Blurry, blocky and washed out. Plus the fact the container format is a bit inaccessible.
The fact that VCD/SVCD is playable on standalone players is not a good enough reason to butcher a movie.
So for f**ck’s sake. Stop pestering us with obsolete mpeg algorithms.
