BitTorrent clients/managers

BitTorrent is still going strong and expanding over the net despite bad publicity and attempts to shut certain sites down. Hell, I haven’t even booted up DC in over 3 weeks. That pretty much says it all. And with Torrent sites there is a certain element of surprise as you can’t always decide on what you want but rather take what is served since the share is so much more limited and refined than most p2p protocols.

Anyway, one of the main weaknesses with BitTorrent is still the clients. There are quite a few to choose from but neither is perfect.

PTC (recommended)

Nova Torrent (recommended)

ABC (recommended – has real queueing)

Burst (maybe)

BT++ (maybe)

TheSHAD0W’s experimental bt client (haven’t tried it)

Azureus java client (haven’t tried it)

BitTorrent for Macintosh

Shareaza (should probably avoid this)

Experimental Client

Original Client

Sadly, the original and experimental client still lack a download manager. Because of various quirks I was forced to drop BT++ and after a brief time with Burst I moved over to PTC (Personal Torrent Collector) which I find superior when it comes to memory allocation and functionality.

    bah, none of your recomended clients are worth anything, i can’t see detailed info of other clients and seeds like the novva client and the experimental, wich is something pretty much essential to anyone doing alot of torrents

    I dare to disagree.. I think PTC has all of your options you are looking for and more..did you take the time to actually look throught the tabs?

    Hmmm. Some of the other clients are more advanced. But do you really need all those options? But as I say, haven’t tested Nova. Looks like it is in fact a very good client though. Wouldn’t want to run the exp. client still.

    Unfortunately the new PTC client is really buggy. Hope they will fix it soon. Might be a good reason to try out some of the other clients.
