Space.com: Pentagon Report: China’s Space Warfare Tactics Aimed at U.S. Supremacy
China appears to be sharpening its war fighting space skills, from creating anti-satellite weaponry, building new classes of heavy-lift and small boosters, as well as improving an array of military space systems.
That judgment comes courtesy of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) which earlier this week released its annual report to Congress: The Military Power of the People’s Republic of China.
The report focuses on the current and probable future course of that country’s growing military-technological prowess, including the use of space to assure military advantage.
Most who have kept their eyes on the development in recent years will probably tell you it is inevitable. I must say that the US had acted very irresponsible and done very little to relax its foreign relations. I’m not surprised that China is gearing up to protect itself from a perceived threat. The US has just about done everything wrong when it comes to diplomacy and international law. The recent Iraq campaign just confirmed decades of prejudice and according to some even became an essential stepping stone towards WWIII.
The same is true for conventional weaponry. Common sense dictates that in just a few years time there will be two super powers on this rock once again. One old and one new (at least in modern time). There is no other single nation that can compete with the US in sheer numbers and technology at the moment. No other that has the ambition. No other that has perceived the US as a threat (the only threat) for decades (and with good reasons).
It is doubtful whether a “cold war” scenario will play out a second time. Especially given the all new arrogant attitude of the US command. The all too familiar “with us or against us” doctrine didn’t impress or calm down anyone in Beijing I am sure. This could the the mother of all circular prophecies.
