DDOS against f2o.org

Yes. It seems no one is safe these days. Here’s a snip from the email that just landed in my mailbox:

Just a quickie write up here about the distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack we suffered starting last Wednesday night.

As best I can figure it, this attack was because someone wanted to ‘get back’ at f2o.org for not accepting their application for free hosting. The timing fits, and there are a few other clues that support this theory. While obviously extremely childish in nature, this behavior isn’t un-common among certain groups of todays bored young teens who are often very bright but unable to find positive outlets for their frustrations and angst.

Suffice to say, open account applications for our free hosting have been taken offline, and will remain there for some time while we figure out the best way to deal with this situation. We certainly don’t want to punish all of the people who would benefit from free f2o.org hosting out there, but we also don’t want to punish our current members either. The first step to us totally opening up open applications again will be moving to a new co-location host. We’ve simply outgrown where we’re at now in a number of ways.

Typical, isn’t it. Some brat is going to ruin it for everyone. More info is on the main f2o site forum. F2o has been the greatest hosting company ever. I hope this wont in any way change the conditions under which the current members (like myself) operate.
