I predict that this will be a hit with nerds all over the globe. And privacy loons as well. Basically what Aura has done is to perfect a technology known as magnetic induction. The advantages of this compared to current RF solutions include Lower Power Consumption, Greater Reliability and Higher Frequency Reuse.
The downside is of course that the field only expands like 1.5 - 2 m from the base unit. But that is also the general idea here. Given the fact that the technology isn’t sensitive to obstacles, that distance should be enough for most practical applications. I also think that since the technology is so cheap, it would be possible to set up a grid of wireless access points in a home of office environment. It would negate the whole privacy thing however. For a headset it is quite enough anyway. Plus 25 hours of talk time and 3 months of standby are nice features. The $59 price tag is a winning concept as well.
From what I can tell the first model should be out very soon (4th quarter).
