Via CNN: Schwarzenegger wins election

Another big win for democracy, right? Because that is what this is, even if it happened in the context of a media fixated world. This could be one of those monumental events that shift the course of politics and the future. It’s not the first time a celebrity has risen to this rank of course but maybe this time the public will get it. The main question is whether to reform democracy or to accept the current system but realize that it is not as “divine” and pretentious. I.e. see the true mechanisms at work behind the curtain. Demystify the process so to speak.

With all the losers being elected these days it’s good to know that Schwarzenegger has at least accomplished something with his life. So maybe he is a not a shrinkwrapped politician but we have enough of those anyway. With my slightly pessimistic view of politics I have no reason to believe that this choice is significantly worse than any other the public could have made. Sometimes change is good, just for the sake of changing. Plus the man is charismatic. Maybe not the traditional traits for a leader, but nevertheless legitimate traits. A bizarre but fresh breeze.
