Another day another IBM drive

Everything is really going to hell in a handbasket this week. First the semi-successful firmware hack of the 401S. And now the 60GXP drive in the HTPC ceased to work just like that. I had some problems with it after the hardware switch last Christmas (damaged clusters) but nothing like this. The system recognizes the unit but nothing else happens. None of the partitions are readable from windows. There is lots of agonizing chewing going on. I’m not spending another minute of my time on this piece of crap. It’s going back to IBM/Hitachi by RMA.

Data loss: Four backup DVD movies that I didn’t have an opportunity to burn yet. Those were Blade 2, Resident Evil, In the Mood for Love and Battle Royale. One entire season of Stargate SG-1. Crap!

Edit: Thanks to the nitpicking shipping rules laid out by the manufacturer I was charged 230 SEK for postage. Last time I used a somewhat homemade package (with foam) that didn’t measure more than 10 cm in height and therefore could be sent as letter. This is what you get for obeying the rules. Once again, I say “fuck you” to the Swedish postal service.
Oh well. The good news is that they always return a better drive than the one you RMAed. At least that has been my experience so far.
