Freeloaders

I have to admit I am one of them. A regular moocher. If there is ever a chance to cheat the system (any system) I tend to take it. Call it a lack of ethics if you will, but I am an extremely individualistic person living in an otherwise individualistic society. The only rule of thumb is not to directly affect other individuals. And who can predict indirect effects anyway? No one can tell the future, so live for the moment, right?

The reason I bring this up is as an introduction to the following little story. If there is one thing we love to hate in Sweden it is public transportation. For a long time now the service has deteriorated and the prices have been hiked continuously.
A couple of years ago, left-wing radical organization launched a campaign to give people a real alternative to paying the tedious and ever increasing fees. It’s kind of a payed membership at this time, although a lot cheaper than the “official rate”.
The motto is to catch a free ride and if you’re caught cheating the system then the organization will pay your fine. The ultimate goal being free public transportation, at least within the major cities. Maybe they should also have demanded public transportation that actually works the year around  That would have been even more outrageous.

God, I really love civil disobedience! But quite frankly I do not condone giving money to left-wing interests or any political movements for that matter.

For crying out loud. There is a much easier way to do this people. Don’t pay the damn fines. Don’t show any id if you’re caught and promptly leave the scene. Give a fake address or just refuse to pay and claim that you were never at the scene. People are just too quick to obey uniformed, authoritarian individuals.
