New Nightwish album?

Nightwish vocalist Tarja TurunenAbout time isn’t it. According to the official webpage they have pretty much been locked in the studio for a month now.
I’m still not sure if the new album will be published by Spinefarm Records but since there has been no info whatsoever I must assume it is so. Why risk a winning concept. Given the development of this band since the first album I can’t be anything but enthusiastic.

I have been ranting about this band for some time now, yet I never properly explained their background and style. It’s kind of difficult to label this band. I suppose the fairest thing would be to call it gothic power metal. Or whatever. That’s the beauty of this concept perhaps. It IS a bit difficult to pinpoint the style, even if they do borrow heavily from established sources. Plus they are after all reasonable new on the scene (first studio album in 1997) and seem to appeal to social groups who are otherwise impervious to metal music.

One can’t help wonder about the future of this band also. For instance, there has been a lot of talk about Tarja Turunen leaving. Some have speculated that the rapid rise to fame has taken its toll. Several interviews have indicated that she is tired of the gigs. She alone makes up the image of this group with lace, leather and an earth shattering voice. Kind of hard to imagine how someone from the Sibelius Academy ends up as the front figure for one of the newest and brightest bands on the metal scene. And as big as the band has grown, the really big breakthrough is still waiting around the corner. Nightwish isn’t exactly a household name just yet.
