Mortal Kombat 3

IMDB: Mortal Kombat: Domination (aka Mortal Kombat 3)

Ok, so this is not the correct poster but who caresCould this possibly work? Is there even a snowflake’s chance in hell? Well, if they can mimic the unrestrained style of the first movie it could actually be a load of fun. Yes really.

I’ll just go right ahead and admit it. I think it (MK1) takes a very dull martial arts concept and adds pizzazz, a distinct sense of self-awareness and a corny mix of humour and action that actually works.
Compared to other game movies this is essentially Shakespeare. Ok, maybe not but I’m sure you get my point.

The cast is promising at least. Almost everyone from MK1 has been signed on, including Christopher Lambert, Robin Shou, Talisa Soto and Linden Ashby.

It seems that they are in fact taking this project seriously. Unlike MK2 that was nothing but a quick parenthesis. I remember making a note earlier this year about MK3 being released on May 7th. Apparently there was another game plan back then. Can’t recall who was or wasn’t cast back then. I have a feeling the ensemble was much smaller though.
The movie has now been pushed back at least a full year. Not necessarily a bad thing when we’re talking Mortal Kombat. Say what you will of this type of movie but it is probably one of the most difficult genres to excel with. Compare it to a sappy story about orphans in Victorian England for example or one of those airheaded romantic comedies.

Can you hear the taiko drums and techno theme song playing …
