This is as good a time as any to join the Miranda crowd. Experience the excitement of running cutting edge software with no bloating nor ads. Customizable with layout, virtually every protocol and dozens of handy plugins.
For no particular reason I compiled a list of plugins that I have installed. You’ll have to find them in the official plugin archive yourself of course. Many of them revolve around the PopUp plugin. Anyway:
- AlwaysOnline (restore connection automatically)
- Away System (have multiple predefined away/na messages to choose from)
- Browse for received files (go from user to incoming folder with ease)
- Change status message (improved functionality, no need to change status)
- Contact info export (user info to vCard or clip board)
- History++ (a real history list with export functions)
- HTTPServer (serve files using HTTP for user who are behind proxy/fw)
- MICQBirthday
- MessageSound (plays and sends sounds like Messenger Plus)
- MSN v.8 Protocol
- NewEventNotify (messages and other events are displayed as a popups)
- New “Notes & Reminders” (yellow sticky notes)
- NewStatusNotify (status changes via popups)
- No unwanted sounds (can disable sounds)
- PopUp Interoperability (!!! essential for other plugins !!!)
- Last seen plugin (log when users were last online)
- Shell context menus for transfers (right click send in explorer)
- Shutdown (set shutdown timer for system)
- SMS (using the ICQ network)
- Spam filter
- Status Change (change status when you send/receive)
- WhoIsReadingMyStatusMsgNotify (LOL!)
- WinampNotify (interacts with Winamp 2/3/5 via popups)
and lately …
- AutoSaveMsg (saves and restores unsent text)
- Snapping Windows (sticks to the edge of the desktop, like Winamp)
The plugins are all listed at the Miranda download repository.
Unfortunately it takes a little while to fetch and install the essential plugins, icons and sounds. But in a way that is kind of the point. It’s like being a kid all over again building that big LEGO castle or something. It’s a never-ending project that way. I’ve actually thought about doing a pre-compiled package with all the essential stuff and some visual eyecandy but time and bandwidth is scarce as always.
