Via Fark: The next generation of game commodity trading.
Bizarro-world entry of the month and possible contender for goofball idea of the year. Someone decided to open an exchange market for imaginary currencies. How do “SWG credits” compare to “There therebucks” and “TSO simoleans”? You can also trade game items and accounts. Everything is of course just as imaginary.
As much as it is bizarre, it is also a fascinating turn of events. Just as the internet has created a revolutionary and global community it has also breached a field that has long been monopolized by nations and states. Although this is on a very small scale of course, you never know where this road ends. The possibilities are great of course. I’m kind of thinking The Economics of Star Trek here. I think I’ve posted that link before but it’s worth reading thru again. Something like this could give globalization a considerable vitamin injection in the long run.
The point is, even if it IS imaginary to most of us, as long as ppl define it as real .. well .. it is real enough for them.
