Got another harddrive to complete the new and improved HTPC. Or rather, I put the new drive in the main setup and moved the smallest disk to the mediabox setup. I also happened to throw in an extra 512 MB stick for the main setup. Not as big a leap as going from 256 to 512 but very noticeable in some instances.

However, the main new gadget to play around with was the Creative NX Ultra Webcam. Lets see if I can put it to some good use. Could be one of those silly things that end up at the bottom of some drawer .. but it is also one of those things that are a real nuisance when, for once, you need it and haven’t got one.
So far I’m pleased with the image quality. It is in line with what I expected. Focus as well as other automatic sensors are a tad slow. And obviously it doesn’t work at all in poorly illuminated settings. But apart from that a reasonably cheap CCD Cam that gets the work done. Too bad I seldom have the bandwidth to use it as a webcam for the site though. Not that I can think of an original concept at the moment. Maybe the best use is for surveillance and keeping tabs on the neighbours when I’m away.
