Seems I’m doing nothing but complain these days. It has become a lifestyle almost. But the point is that there is always something at the heart of every complaint. It might be that you’ve blown it out of proportion or have approached the subject in the wrong way but there still exists some truth.
Being a rather halfhearted weekend for SUPRNOVA I ventured to see if I could rely on the eDonkey network in the case of a “download emergency”. I have never been a fan of Kazaa, eDonkey and whatever for one simple reason - you never get the stuff you want. At least I don’t, and certainly not within reasonable time. The control over what is happening is extremely limited and for some reason the peers are always constipated. The “donkeys” are not cooperating at all but rather slowing each other to a crawl. At least with DC++, when you find a peer with what you want you can expect to get the file in question fairly soon. You never end up as # 8356 in line or face 4kb/s for an entire day. Sure, finding a peer is easy but whats the point in this case?
Anyway, I went over to Sharereactor.com, picked a file with over 900 peers and expected to see the data come streaming in. I can just round this up by noting that eDonkey and the likes still suck donkey ass. If all P2P services functioned like this, then the RIAA, MPAA and big biz would have little to worry about. Most people would get squat and be in a state of constant hysteria. Personally I don’t know where I’d been without the introduction of BitTorrent. Surely wouldn’t have gotten the two extra hard drives and the DVD burner anyway.
