Stargate Atlantis and other media happenings

### It seems that the official Stargate Atlantis website has finally been updated with some real content. Ok, so it’s just a poster but nevertheless. For more info I saw a real spoiler report over at one of the fan sites, Gateworld. The series is set to debut some time in July according to the site. Seems a bit early considering that Stargate SG-1 is supposed to be on for another season (the 8th) and it is currently at the 16th episode of the 7th season. I guess the both series will be on simultaneously for a season. All the talk about a 9th season of SG-1 seems like wishful thinking at the moment. It’s better to burn out than to fade away you know.
Anyway, the rather disturbing fact of it is that Richard Dean Anderson seems to be retiring from acting altogether. He will be in the 8th season of SG-1 (although limited screen time) as will he been in the pilot for Atlantis but that is it. I don’t know if this is the way it will play out but at the moment it sure seems that way. I remember RDA talking about retiring for some time now, even before SG-1, so if he was tired of the biz back then and short on family time I guess he isn’t much happier now.

### Another thing that is just as predictable is how Patrick Stewart is now saying he IS (again) quitting Star Trek. He seems very fed up with sci-fi, nerdy fans and 15 years of playing Jean-Luc Picard. At least he indicates he will be staying with the X-Men franchise for the time being.

### According to AICN (so this is far from confirmed) Peter Weller has been cast as the other half of the Weyland-Yutani corporation, “John Yutani”. “Charles Weyland” being cast as Lance Henriksen of course. Neither is a bad actor by definition, even if Weller has been in some pretty funny stuff the last couple of years. I very much liked him in Odyssey 5 though. All we need now is for director Paul W.S. Anderson not to screw up too bad …
And btw. Seems that Resident Evil 2 is DONE. This guy sure has a lot of projects going for him this year. I only hope at least one of them turns out ok.

### A somewhat positive rumour is that James Cameron will soon begin work on a yet unnamed sci-fi project shot using HD digital 3D (thats the bad news). AICN once again gets completely stir crazy and claims that this project must be Battle Angel Alita. Could be. It’s one of the oldest and most persistent rumours in the Gunnm community. We know for a fact that Cameron approached Yukito Kishiro but was turned down. But anything else is pure speculation.
If you’re a fan of speculation I guess the project could very well be Evangelion or Ghost in the Shell. In the end it could very well be Titanic 2 also … ;-)
Too bad that Cameron didn’t continue work on the Alien franchise for example. And whatever happened to True Lies 2 (apart from Arnold becoming unavailable of course)? God knows what James Cameron has been doing for the last six years.
