University of Skövde Web Site. I hate to say “I told you so” .. but .. I told you so.
Two years of work and God knows how many thousands of monetary units result in this pile of utter rectal vomit. And even if the framework is sound (albeit minimal), it shows that their handiwork is shaky. Whoever is in charge of image processing for example couldn’t design a square box even if it started a small pop duo and released the top hit single ’square boxes are here again’.
I don’t doubt that their is some sort of technical competence behind the site, the problem is just that this is an art. It’s just not something you can tackle using textbook knowledge alone. It takes years to cognitively process all the information that will make you even a hack visual designer. So it is in fact something that you can learn, but it is one of those things that will have to become an entire lifestyle. Anything is possible, but turning your average bum into da Vinci with a crash course and a new employment contract is just idiotic.
My best guess is that they have a couple of blowhard types that have talked and schemed their way to get to handle this project. Universities are like old and corrupt organizations that way. Under normal conditions they would perish but since they are in their own sandbox they do not. They themselves make up the rules so that they can prosper and carry on their disgusting backscratching. I kinda expected more. Sorry, but you people just don’t measure up to my high standards.
My patience is wearing thin with these incompetent clowns. It wouldn’t be so bad if they at least could realize their shortcomings. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, enrages my more than people who are smug about having done a poor job. It goes against everything that I am. Modesty is the greatest virtue of all.

But what do you REALLY think?
Aha. Mr Moya. Nice to hear from you again
I just think it’s ironic how they have all the prerequisites to make a really good website themselves. I mean come on, they have one of the best comp. depts. in the country plus visual design and media.
But instead they outsource the project, use closed source and the people on their end who are in charge of managing the site have no clue.
Feels backwards. Again, not that this is anything unique. But since I come in contact with this almost every day it is starting to annoy me. Every polished exterior I have looked into has been like a waxed apple all rotten on the inside.
I once had so high thoughts of univ culture. But I am finally coming to terms with the fact that it is indeed a product of its time. I was naive maybe to think that this could prevail like an island in a social sea of corruption, rotten consultants and incompetence.
And I must say certain people are too fixated on providing scalable fonts and warn about cookies than actual design work. Not to say they are completely unimportant, but it has become first priority for some people and that is a bit skew.
I REALLY appreciate what you say and I agree for the most part.
It seems to me, however, that what you’re calling for is for a coalition of people from various departments of the university to come together and design the website. Can you imagine?! If YOU were in charge of the website would you want to manage that? It would probably never get done.
This way the site is done. On time and meeting the requirements of the person in charge of making it.

Someone with your combination of good writing skill, technical knowledge and social education has a LARGE advantage in life. Your cross-knowledge and skill will stand you in good stead in the future.
I guess so. You are right, there are certain advantages doing like they have. No one dept. will feel left out since the actual design work wasn’t done in-house. If it had they would have had to leave it with the comp. science dept. and everyone else would have been pissed. And there is a chance usability would have been suffering.
Hmm. I guess it is meeting the requirements. Just not mine. But since I was never onboard I should probably leave it alone. Nothing that can be done about it now.

We’ll see if I can put it to good use. Just need to find my niche. Time will tell.
Well. Thank you for believing that
