So what can be said about the album at this point? Not much. We know from the official site and various other sources that the album must be nearing completion already. Even if there is much mixing and fiddling left I am sure.

Creek Mary’s Blood will feature John Two-Hawks where he will be playing flute, singing and reciting.

Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan (”Death Makes an Artist”): It is also interesting to see that Nightwish will be performing (at least) one track in Finnish / Suomi. This is not the first time as I recall it. Angels Fall First had the “Lappi” suit, but it was mostly instrumental with a mix of English and Suomi. Personally I find Suomi to be a very beautiful and enchanting language and despite what people think, this will be a very cool feature. After all, anything performed by Nightwish and especially Tarja Turunen is enchanting, right?

Where Were You Last Night: And as for the Ankie Bagger cover, I guess most people wont remember it. The album was released in 1989 and it’s Samantha Fox style disco. Like so many hit songs of the late 80s and early 90s it is a product of Norell-Oson-Bard (Tim Norell, Ola Håkansson, Alexander Bard). And obviously I have the album, something that has caused me a measure of ridicule in the past. Nevertheless, it is one of the great songs of the era, and one that is terribly underrated. I’ll be very interested to see what Nightwish will be able to do with it.

As for the rumour mill, it is apparent from reading the forum that the new album is lovingly crafted. More effort, money and people seem to have been involved than ever before. The actual sound is said to be superior to anything Nightwish has done to date.

There is a pre-preview of the new album here btw …
