Impending breakdown

I’m just gonna have to admit that maintenance is not my forte. Wearing things down however, is.
I should have done a complete overhaul of my MTB last year, but I did not. Obviously things didn’t improve from that point forward. The list of issues has now grown extensive (with more to be uncovered upon a close examination):

  • Spokes loosening, vibration increasing.
  • Rear tyre is trashed
  • Puncture imminent on rear wheel tube.
  • Gear wheels minus a few cogs.
  • Left pedal arm likely cracked.
  • Saddle looks like something out of an old zombie movie.
  • Brakes are down to a minimum, pads that I bought last year were obviously of really crappy quality.

Too bad I haven’t got a digital camera. Some of the wear and tear is actually kind of fascinating. I guess I forget how old the bike actually is, and how many times I’ve done a clumsy tumble on asphalt.

Not technically difficult to fix, really. It’s more a question of getting to it. And that replacing parts on a (once) $900+ bike is obviously just as expensive as it sounds. Unless you settle for low grade stuff (but I’ve already done that with the brake pads and it didn’t work out obviously). Also, I’m sick and tired of the local bike shops. Expensive and brusk. I might be better off waiting until I stop by Gothenburg and Cykel City in the near future.
