Fahrenheit 9/11 wins best film at Cannes

BBC: Anti-Bush film wins Cannes prize

Director Michael Moore’s controversial anti-Bush documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 has won the prestigious Palme d’Or best film award at the Cannes festival.

It was the first documentary to win the top prize since Jacques Cousteau’s The Silent World in 1956.

This will be unpopular with certain people in the US I am sure. I have no doubt that it is a good movie but this award is perhaps a little over the top. An award for a fine movie but also a political statement. But then again, what isn’t a political statement these days? One can bash Michael Moore for playing such an open hand but I guess he got fed up with playing it modest and discreet. Sometimes you just want to give people a taste of their own medicine. I know the feeling.
