BBC News has created a guide to the wars that are being waged on our planet at the moment. At any given time there are over a dozen conflicts that scar the earth and shame our species.
The BBC programme One Day of War follows individual fighters in 16 of these wars, over the same 24 hour period.
The situation is just unacceptable. Yet we do nothing unless our derelict slumber is disturbed by the grim reaper knocking on our door. And by “doing nothing” I am not saying that we should charge in on the terms of others and engage in warfare ourselves. I believe that intervention can be much more modest and effective, given the appropriate timing and concern. Especially since the majority of these conflicts are civil war situations, which cannot be resolved using military might alone, unless one is prepared to accept total annihilation. The problem is that people just don’t care. And that the correct measures are withheld until such a time that a military intervention can be called for. War is good for business. Only, people do not realize in their narrow little existence that the next time around it might be them that are bled like pigs. They sell out for the short term profit as always.
