Olympic Hypocrisy

And I thought I was finished complaining about the Olympic farce. But once one digs, there is bottomless pit of darkness to be found. First it was the killing of wild dogs in the scores of thousands, then a police state spread its wings. When things couldn’t get any more tarnished, the main sponsors banned any signs or products advertising competing brands … in the whole of Athens. Wonderful. Doesn’t take much to enter totalitarianism. That is what really scares me, the ease by which all of this happened. As a hypothetical head of state, or a citizen of any free nation, I would be reluctant to accept the Olympic games for fears of contamination, domination and even hostile takeover. A trojan horse of apparent good will. But all of that has already been commented on …

So anyway, the question has arisen whether women are subjected to a sexist tradition. Specifically in Beach Volleyball. Didn’t even know that was a real sport but we’ll assume so for the argument. I feel it is a bit static and dull but maybe it is just me.
Certain elements have complained that a countries such as Iran and Saudi Arabia turned up with a somewhat less than politically correct team and attitude. More specifically barren or close to barren of female athletes. Reminiscent of the South Africa’s apartheid regime.
On the other hand one can’t help but hear the cries of sexism and scantily clad contestants from the women couch potatoes at home. And that is exactly the argument religious states such as Iran apply. And both polarities obviously slam each other over this.

Not to mention one bikini-clad girl complaining that the bikini-clad cheerleaders are “disrespectful” to the “sport”.

Is that irony or what? Can’t argue with the fact that it is a joy to watch women in skimpy bikinis jump up and down. But also, one has to love these hypocrites.

Edit: Is it just me … or has almost every female competition suit been sexed up in some fashion? Just happened to see cyclists competing in swimsuits (or whatever). The importance of appearances is certainly at an all-time high. Not that I really object. It finally provides ample reasons to watch sports even for an old sports hater such as myself.
