Freely-floating aquatic plants

Trying to do something about algae growth. The fact of the matter is that one can’t keep a bowl of water standing for more than perhaps a week before algae take over. Even if you don’t see it at first, you know they are there, thriving in the absence of other organisms able to consume the nutrients in the water. You can perhaps see them as a thin layer on the surface, almost like dirt and you can definitely feel their presence on the sides of the bowl in the form of a very slimy substance. I’ve now started planting Salvinia rotundifolia / auriculata, a floating aquatic fern also referred to as butterfly fern. One of the most invasive organisms there are on this planet.
