Freemind | “FreeMind is a premier free mind-mapping software written in Java. The recent development has hopefully turned it into high productivity tool. We are proud that the operation and navigation of FreeMind is faster than that of Mind Manager because of one-click “fold / unfold” and “follow link” operations.”
Freeware is nice. Java is not. But still a nice tool. Mind mapping by hand is just so slow. I wouldn’t mind having a tablet PC to go with this though. There is something very special about using a pencil to stroke and write and it probably aids memory as well.
SketchUp | “SketchUp presents a completely new way to design in 3D on the computer. Developed for the conceptual stages of design, this powerful, easy-to-learn software allows for quick and easy 3D form creation, modification and communication. Sophisticated enough for complex projects yet accessible for beginners, SketchUp allows everyone from Architects to hobbyists to design in 3D. And it plays well with others! SketchUp exchanges data with all standard CAD, 3D modeling, image editing, and illustration applications.”

I can vouch for the quick and easy part. Perfect for visualization of floor plans or whatever. You’ll still need some skill in order to create some of the stuff they showcase on their web site.
Radmin (update) | “Radmin is an award-winning multifunction remote control program. Radmin enables you to remotely monitor or work on one or more network computers right from your own workstation. It is a complete remote control solution with such features as File Transfer, NT security, Telnet and Multilanguage Support built-in.”
Famatech has recently taken up development again and released a beta of Radmin Viewer v3. Even if some of the new features wont see the light of day until there is a corresponding Server v3, the software is as useful as ever.
