ALF on DVD

I blinked and missed it. Apparently the release date was set to 10/08/04. It’s kind of amazing that after all these years, ALF finally gets a much deserved DVD release.

ALF was probably one of my favorite series when I was a kid. The eye for detail combined with being genuinely funny and also just a bit silly made it a joy to watch. Even as I watch it today I still find it appealing. And THAT is rare for a piece of childhood memorabilia.

The quality of this DVD release is adequate for an 80s TV series as far as I can see. Image has supposedly been digitally enhanced but both video and audio remain in their original format / aspect ratio. Even includes a blooper reel, some commentary tracks and the unaired pilot.

Other series that may or may not exist on DVD or may or may not be slated for release but would be greatly appreciated include Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Dinosaurs, Beauty and the Beast and naturally MacGyver.

Apparently Paramount is finally ready to do something about MacGyver. We’ll see …

MacGyver, on the other hand, is a completely different story! There are some high-speed plans for this show, starring the ever-popular Richard Dean Anderson. Look for that series to not only arrive on DVD in 2005, but to quickly hit a fast track and demand space on your shelves at home. Plans can always change (expect us to repeat that another dozen or so times), but you can potentially look for quarterly releases to arrive in January, April, August, and December.
