It’s official. With the release of LOTR ROTK EE, I’m out of the DVD game. For someone who doesn’t believe in copyright, I have a considerable (50+ title) collection of DVDs. In my defence it was pre broadband days and just when DVD was all new and marvellous. I had the motive but not the means. Since then I have changed my ways and reinforced my ideology for doing so.
As always, I order my movies from CD-WOW, to minimize cost and make a statement of sorts. Same thing with LOTR ROTK EE. A nice R3 (SE Asia) version. I previously have the R1 version of FOTR and R3 of TT so I don’t have any reason not to get this version. Besides there is a nasty water mark in the R2 version. New Line claims that it exists in all zones but evidence so far points to the fact that it is not so. Look for the number “821″. It’s only visible for two frames but people are NOT happy about it.
Also, since CD-WOW has the ability to select currency, I make sure not to use US Dollars. Another statement. But that is a different story altogether. In many ways, wisdom brings great responsibilities and burdens. Just buying a movie touches upon unfair competition, international trade obstacles, intellectual property, digital watermarking, objective value of items, modern imperialism and economic hitchhiking (if there is a better word for it I’d like to know, I’m not an economist).
