Chomsky Torrents

Just a quick note to say that Chomskytorrents.org is open since a couple of weeks ago. Seems like a nice initiative. Especially since most of the contemporary media is doing their very best to avoid or disregard anything Noam Chomsky has to say. His books are being shunned by ‘mainstream’ reviewers and so on.

The purpose of this site is to enhance the distribution of non-copyrighted video and audio material of American dissident Noam Chomsky’s talks and interviews, using Bittorrent peer2peer technology. The idea is to establish a place for gathering relevant torrents available on various popular Bittorrent sites, as well as information about their content and quality.

Don’t know who Noam Chomsky is? You should.

You don’t. And obviously, since I first posted this, someone has added material from both the BBC and PBS. That can’t be public domain. But I guess someone could claim "fair use". This part of copyright, with regard to television is dicey, I agree. I don’t really have an answer for you.

If you want something that is per definition CC or PD I think you are out of luck. It’s not often you see this with media. At best the material lacks any clear license. I would suggest you contact the content provider of the respective clips, and include a reference in your finished work. I don’t see why they would mind. Especially if they have any interest in seeing Chomsky’s message disseminated.

As for other, better sources of Chomsky I don’t think there are any.
